CoCreate/OneSpace Designer 3D Library

Installing 3D Library

The instructions are divided into two sections:

Prerequisites

Before you can begin installing 3D Library, your hardware, its operating system and OneSpace Designer must be correctly configured. Check the following and make changes where necessary:

You are now ready to begin the actual installation procedure.

Installation Procedure

The 3D Library catalog installation procedure comprises the following steps:

1. Loading the 3D Library Catalogs

The installation CD-ROM supplied with 3D Library contains the catalogs necessary to run 3D Library on HP-UX and MS-Windows NT workstations that support OneSpace Designer. For using 3D Library within a heterogeneous environment (HP-UX on one side and NT on the other) you have to install the catalogs twice (one for each Operating System) in order to avoid data access conflicts.

The 3D Library catalogs are loaded from this medium to your hard disk by means of an intuitive installation dialog.

Procedure for HP-UX

  1. Verify that all required devices are switched on and that the destination disk (hard disk on which you want to install 3D Library catalogs) is ready for operation.

  2. Insert the CD-ROM containing the 3D Library catalogs into the drive and wait until the loading process is completed.

  3. Log on as Superuser.

  4. Mount the CD drive, e.g. by entering a command such as:
    mount /dev/dsk/<device file> /cdrom

  5. Change to the applicable directory, e.g.:
    cd /cdrom/3D_LIB/HP_UX

  6. Start the SETUP.UX script.

Procedure for MS-Windows NT

  1. Insert the CD-ROM containing the 3D Library catalogs into the drive.
  2. Change to the drive (e.g. D:) associated with your CD-ROM drive.
  3. Change to the 3D_LIB product directory on the CD.
  4. Change to the Winnt platform directory on the CD.
  5. Start the setup.exe script.
  6. Select the language you want to use for the installation procedure.
  7. Follow the instructions displayed by the 3D Library installation script.
  8. Specify the top directory in which you want to install the catalogs (the default is C:\Program Files\CoCreate\SolidLibrary).
  9. Select the catalogs you want to install by simply clicking on any point in the space to the left of the component names. Then click Next to verify your selections.
  10. Click Next to start the installation procedure.
  11. Follow the instructions on the screen.

Result of the Installation Procedure

Your hard disk now contains a hierarchical directory structure within the installation directory (such as /opt/CoCreate/SolidLibrary for HP-UX or C:\Program Files\CoCreate\SolidLibrary for MS-Windows NT).

Depending on your catalog selection, the 3D Library installation directory contains one or more of the following directories:

slansiso Contains the standard part definition and configuration files for ANSI/ISO parts.
sldiniso_eng Contains the standard part definition and configuration files (English version) for DIN/ISO parts.
sldiniso_ger Contains the standard part definition and configuration files (German version) for DIN/ISO parts.
slexampl_eng Contains the standard part definition and configuration files (English version) for examples presented in this manual.
slexampl_ger Contains the standard part definition and configuration files (German version) for examples presented in this manual.

Each catalog directory contains:

/SolidLib

/config Default configuration adjusted during installation.
/icon Icons adjusted during installation.

/slcatalog

/add Used for class customizing. See Creating a Standard Part Kit for details.
/config Default catalog configuration.
/dat Empty, used by 3D Library.
/ext Used for class customizing. See Creating a Standard Part Kit for details.
/icon MAIN, EZT and CLASS icons.
/lisp For additional lisp files.
/prog For examples of catalogs only.
/prv Empty. Used by 3D Library.
/tab Selection tables for the catalog.
/zor Control files for tables.

/solidlib.cfg This is the configuration file that is read during 3D Library startup. It is adjusted during installation to set the necessary environment variables. It must be copied to the OneSpace Designer sd_customize/solidlib directory.

The search order for SOLIDLIB/solidlib.cfg is:

  1. User customization directory (~/sd_customize or $SDUSERCUSTOMIZEDIR)
  2. Site customization directory ($SDSITECUSTOMIZEDIR)
  3. Corporate customization directory ($SDCORPCUSTOMIZEDIR)
  4. OneSpace Designer customization directory ($SDDIR/personality/sd_customize)

2. Entering the Codewords

The codewords for 3D Library and its associated standard part catalogs have to be entered in the ME License Server (MEls) configuration file:

/etc/MEls.conf

Note
For detailed instructions on how to enter codewords, refer to the chapter on installation in your OneSpace Designer documentation.

  • For 3D Library and its "flexible" 100 part kit, you must enter one codeword for 3D Library and one codeword for the part kit.

  • If you are upgrading 3D Library Junior to rev. 8.0, you do not need to enter or change a codeword.

3. Checking the Environment Variables in solidlib.cfg

The solidlib.cfg file automatically sets the following environment variables for you:

;----------------------------------------------------------
(system::putenv "VDAPS_SMLPATH" "<CATALOG-PATH>/slcatalog")
(system::putenv "SOLIDLIBDIR"   "<CATALOG-PATH>/SolidLib")
(system::putenv "VDAPSCONFIG"   "<CATALOG-PATH>/SolidLib/config")
;----------------------------------------------------------

where <CATALOG-PATH> stands for the installed catalog path, for example:

c:\Program Files\CoCreate\SolidLibrary\sldiniso_eng
or
/opt/CoCreate/SolidLibrary/sldiniso_eng
  • VDAPS_SMLPATH specifies the default directory for the 100 standards kit supplied with 3D Library.

  • SOLIDLIBDIR specifies the 3D Library default directory.

  • VDAPSCONFIG specifies the directory for your 3D Library configuration (binary files).

Starting 3D Library

On Windows In the menu bar, click Applications, click Modules and then check 3D Library on.
On UNIX Click File, click Modules and then check 3D Library on.

Deactivating 3D Library

In OneSpace Designer, display the Modules menu and unselect 3D Library.

Note
You cannot re-load DIN License once you have unloaded it in the same OneSpace Designer session.
